Discussing AI for work
Paul : Did you see the email about the new AI software we’ll be using? Apparently it can do the work of 5 people. And it has the potential to do much more than that.
Emily : Don’t you find that a bit concerning? Not only is it weird trusting a robot, but what does that mean for our jobs?
Paul : They’ve assured us that our jobs are safe. This will just help us to expand far more quickly. And if we avoid using this kind of technology, our company will get left behind on the scrap heap! We need to modernize as quickly as possible.
Emily : I’ll be happy to stay around if you can guarantee that my job is safe. But I can’t help but think that sometimes technology is not the answer. I mean, what about that presentation we had to do yesterday in front of hundreds of clients. If we’d relied on a robot, there is no way people would have taken it seriously!
Paul : I take your point, but I think you could relax! We’ll just use AI to help us do the parts of our job that we hate. And AI robot can work for hours on end and doesn’t even need a break!
Emily : Hmm I’m not sure that is the healthiest idea. I don’t want to force anything, living or not, to work 24/7. If we get carried away, there could be more robots than humans in the workplace, being treated like slaves. I know we’re far away from that, but something about it makes me so uncomfortable.
