In recent years there has been a fall in people voting in the UK. We wanted to see whether this indicates if people are less informed about the news. We asked 3 locals about how they stay informed.

Emily : I try to use a bit of everything. I think you’ll never be able to replace a good quality newspaper. It’s imprinted in our culture! However online news sites have been amazing about making news much more accessible. Now you can find out what’s happening on the other side of the world within seconds.
The only problem is that when there is so much negative news around you, it’s hard to stay positive. I wouldn’t change it though, we now are far more connected in the world.

M. Williams : For me I listen to the news bulletin on my way into work in the morning. It helps me to wake up, and I think it’s really important to get my brain into gear before I arrive at the office.
I’m not very technical though, and I don’t even own a smartphone, so I haven’t really tested all these new apps.

Kate : I hate reading newspapers. For me they are so boring and clunky. I prefer to keep up to date with what’s happening through Twitter or Facebook. I think they are such good new ways to share not only information, but also people’s opinion. I think it’s a great way to make ordinary people feel heard by others.
