On the radio
You can’t avoid the facts! Society is changing so quickly and we are not doing enough to educate our youth about it. We are living at a time when inequality is rising, and democratic participation is decreasing. This is just more than a slippery slope. If we are not careful we could lose a generation to political apathy…
Paul : (turns off the radio) But I think this is just so over the top : being a teenager is such a battle these days. There are so many social pressures; being forced into politics is the last thing they need!
Michele : It’s clear that expectations of them have decreased. But let’s look at the facts: We were both working from the age of 16, I was paying a mortgage in no time! It’s true that kids have a tough time with social media and everything these days, but in some ways, they have never had it so good !
Paul : I just don’t think that forcing them to pay attention to politics is going to solve anything. I mean it’s not… maybe it’s not the teens that we need to worry about it; its the politicians need to give them something to believe in!
Michele: Well even if they don’t have the energy for politics, if they could just do something in the community to help. Just to give them the experience of what it’s really like to help someone out!
Paul: I think they should just be allowed to enjoy their youth while they have it, before they know it’ll be gone and they’ll just be moaning like us!
