Using the future when talking about the past

We can use the future in the past when we wish to refer to something that was in the future when we were speaking. We use “going to” and “would”.

For example :

– I thought (past) that I was (past) going to (future) go swimming.
– I thought that I would go swimming.
– I didn’t think that I was going to / would enjoy it.
