Joe : Dad, can I have a smartphone ?
Paul : Joe, you’re only 10 !
Joe : But some of my friends already have them !
Paul : Really ? I only got my first mobile phone when I was at university.  How times have changed.  I remember when the iPhone first came out.
Joe : That was ages ago !
Paul : Apple launched it in 2007.  I was so excited when I got one !
Joe : What were mobile phones like before Apple ?
Paul : Well none of them had touch screens for a start.  They only had basic functions like making phone calls, texting and telling the time.  You couldn’t even take a photo ! And they didn’t have a lot of games most of them.  I remember, there was one game I was obsessed with on my Nokia : snake.  I used to play it all the time !  It looks really retro now.
Joe : Well, I want a smartphone like Lizzie.  By next month, I’ll have been saving my pocket money for 3 months.  Do you think I can afford one ?
Paul : No, you’ll need ten times that amount of money.  By the time you’ve saved enough money, the electronic companies will have invented something new.
Joe : Like what ?
Paul : Something smaller, lighter, more powerful, more connected.  I don’t know ! (phone rings)
Yeah it’s your Mother !  We have to go and pick her up.  She’ll have been waiting for 15 minutes by the time we get there.  Hurry up !
