Artificial hearts nowadays can last anything from a few weeks to more than one year.  If you need a total artificial heart, if for example you cannot receive a heart transplant, these can last for up to several last several years now.

By 2020 more than 1000 people will have been fitted with a total artificial heart.  Meaning that more and more people are being given the opportunity to leave hospital and live a normal life.  The device is undergoing trial to extend the life of people with severe heart failure.

I am convinced that by 2050 this device will have saved the lives of many thousands of people
