Kate and parents over Skype

Michele & Paul : Hi Kate, how are you ?
Kate : Not too bad, thanks.
Michele : Oh, that doesn’t sound too good ?
Kate : Well, I have a lot of work at the moment.
Paul : What are you working on ?
Kate : Well, yesterday I saw my teacher and we have to think about our careers and what we’re going to do after graduation. And I’m panicking ! I have so much work to do !
Michele : Don’t worry sweetheart. We’ll be there for you. So have you thought of anything ?
Kate : Well, obviously, I still want to be a famous musician ! It’s been my dream my whole life !
Michele : But you know it’s really difficult and it doesn’t work out for everyone. Despite having talent, grit and determination, you also need luck and connections.
Paul : Your mum’s right, it’s tough out there. Living the dream is great, but the reality is you have to pay the bills. Not all musicians make a lot of money, only a few do. You need to have a back up plan.
Kate : I know all the arguments for and against becoming a musician, but I have to give it a shot, otherwise I’ll regret it when I’m older. And I know it’s long hours, and it’s risky but my teacher says I’m talented.
Michele : I think you have a talent, but you need a plan B.
Kate : Well, I’m thinking about working in studios for film soundtracks.
Paul : That’s a great idea.
Kate : And I’m also going to start playing the lottery !
Michele : Oh, don’t waste your money on that. Right, we have to go, we’re going out for dinner with some friends. Can we call you tomorrow evening ?
Kate : And don’t ring at 8 because I’ll be watching the lottery to see if I’ve won !
