Pippa : When I was 21, I decided to leave Canada. At that time, I would go to university every day and come home to my parents’ place. In the evening I would babysit to earn a bit of extra money, and on the weekend I would spend all of that money going out with my friends ! I enjoyed my life, but I felt it lacked adventure. So I decided to go to France. I had studied French at school, of course, as you do in Canada. And my teacher always talked about Paris. I became fascinated with that city. So I got a part-time job at a fast food restaurant and saved enough money for a plane ticket. My parents thought I was crazy, but they let me go because they knew I wouldn’t be happy otherwise.
It wasn’t easy when I first arrived in Paris. First, the language, and then the culture shock. One good thing, it wasn’t as cold as it was in Canada ! Nevertheless, I enrolled in university, after that, I got a job in London. Living in London gave me the opportunity to travel all over Europe.
To this day, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I love going back to Canada to visit my friends and my family, and to stock up on maple syrup, but my life is here now. I love my Café and I’m very happy.
