Melissa Housey, who lived in South Africa, will give some travel advice about going on safari.

Melissa Housey : Well, there’s always an element of danger, but that’s what makes it exciting ! And you come across some dangerous animals, but the four you must look out for are elephants, buffalo, lion and hippo and we can add crocodile to that list if you are going to be near water.
Interviewer : What tips can you give to stay safe ?
Melissa Housey : To be safe, there are some general rules to follow.  So If you’re in a car, make sure that you stay in the vehicle and your windows are up.  Drive slowly and carefully.
And If you’re on foot, stay downwind from the animal. Otherwise the animal will catch your scent and you never know if that will make it angry or afraid. And If an animal you approach looks hostile make sure you are not in the way of its escape route, and back up slowly and quietly.
And avoid swimming in lakes or rivers unless you are completely sure there are no hippos or crocodiles. In fact, hippos are the most dangerous of the big animals.
Interviewer : Any advice on what to wear ?
Melissa Housey : So, believe it or not, colours are really important.  White ,for example, shows up the dust  and makes you highly visible to animals. So avoid red because this will attract animals, and if you are going into an area where the Tsetse fly is present then you should avoid wearing blue or black.
So I recommend that you pack light : just a couple of t-shirts, some shorts and long trousers because the evenings can be chilly and also keeps a mosquitoes and other insects at bay.  And a good pair of hiking boots is essential !
Interviewer : What about first aid ?
Melissa Housey : I suggest taking a small first aid kit : just some pain killers, chronic medications (just what you need for the trip ), vitamins, insect repellent. And very important :  stay hydrated !
