(Voice over) : This instructional video will teach you about First Aid before you go on summer camp. The aim of this video is to help you feel more prepared and able to cope in an emergency situation. You never know when you might need to help somebody, so everyone should have the skills and confidence to act in an emergency.
First of all, you need to pack a first aid kit. The list of items, which is included in your summer camp manual, can be bought from any drug store. Superficial scrapes, which are the most common incident, only require disinfecting and a bandage. Some more serious wounds may require attention before going to the hospital.
There’s always a rare incident though. For instance, on the second day of camp last year, one of the boys who didn’t know how to swim, fell into the lake. He must have hit his head because he was unconscious when they brought him in. We couldn’t find his pulse and I did CPR. Luckily, we got him breathing again right away, but that little boy had a concussion.
CPR is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions with artificial ventilation.
