Hannah Watkins : I’m a music teacher and I’m passionate about my job. I teach people how to play an instrument (like a guitar, piano or violin) and I also teach voice lessons. Some music teachers, like me, work in universities or schools, and teach many students.
I teach music history, performance and theory, and I also lead various ensembles like the orchestra and choir. I can advise my students on their career.
A Music Teacher has to be a strong leader and a strong musician. They need to be able to relate to students and articulate their goals so they know how to meet them. You must be organised and hard-working. It’s also important to be patient and communicative.
One advantage of my job is that I have long summer holidays. But during term time, on most days, I teach from 7:45  to 2:45. I try not to bring work home with me but sometimes I have to reply to important emails. There are some outside performances and rehearsals that require me to attend throughout the year. These performances are obligatory so I must attend them.
