Reported speech is used to recount what someone said.
• Direct speech
I went kite surfing in Hawaii
• Reported speech
He said he went kite surfing in Hawaii
Form
Subject + report verb (say, tell) + that + rest
Examples
She said that it was a great film
He told me that it was the most boring film he‘s ever seen !
Attention
When using « told », add the personal pronoun after.
Example
He told ME/HIM/HER/THEM that I should go to Hawaii.
Should/Shoudn’t
Should is a modal verb used to :
1. Give advice
You should go to Hawaii
We should watch a movie.
2. Express obligation
I should finish my homework.
I should say hello to the new student.
