Past simple : Questions

Yes or No Questions
Formed with the auxiliary « did » at the beginning.
Did + Subjet + Infinitive verb (without « to »)

e.g.
Positive form           ⇒      Question form
I went on holiday          Did you go on holiday ?

Wh – questions
Starts with a question word (What/Why/How/Who/Where/When), followed by « did ».
Question word + did + subjet + lexical verb

e.g.
Positive form            Question form
I went to Portugal on holiday    ⇒   Where did you go on holiday ?

CAREFUL!
The auxiliary « did » is not used for questions which begin with the modal verb « can », or with the auxiliary verb « be »

1. Can   ⇒   Could
Could + subjet + lexical verb

e.g.
Positive form       Question form
I could not go on holiday last year      Could you go on holiday last year?

2. Be     Was/Were
There is no need to use the lexical verb when using the auxiliary « be « .
Was/Were + subject

e.g.
Positive form     Question form
He was so happy on holiday     Was he happy on holiday ?

REMINDER 

Like = To enjoy
I really liked my time in Greece.
I like travelling.

Like = What + to be + like ? = To ask to describe something.
What was Tibet like ?
What was your backpacking holiday like ?
