Past simple negative
For regular or irregular verbs:
– You must use the auxiliary ‘did’, to which you attach ‘not’. This can be used in the contracted form.
– ‘Did’ is followed by the base of the verb
Subjet + Did + Negative + Verb
e.g.
I did not visit many places ⇒ I didn’t visit many places
I did not stay in a hotel ⇒ I didn’t stay in a hotel
CAREFUL!
For the verbs « to be », « to have » and other modal verbs (A voir B1U12L3), it is only necessary to attach them to the negative form (without did)
Subject + be/have/modal + negative + ‘compliment’
e.g.
I was not very happy ⇒ I wasn’t very happy
We were not on time ⇒ We weren’t on time
