There was / were
There is / are REVISION
« There is » or « there are » express the presence of someone or something.
« There is » ou « there are » expriment la présence de quelqu’un ou de quelque chose.
« There » is followed by « is » if the following word is singular :
« There » est suivi par « is » si le mot suivant est au singulier :
There is + singulier
e.g.
There is a rabbit in my garden.
There are
« There » is followed by « are » if the following word is plural :
« There » est suivi par « are « si le mot suivant est au pluriel :
There are + pluriel
e.g.
There are 5 rabbits in my garden.
There is ⇒ There’s
There are ⇒ There’re
There was/were
We use there + was / were to describe something which was existing, not now does not.
On utilise “there + was / were pour parler de quelque chose qui existait, mais n’existe plus.
Was = singular
Were = plural
Examples:
Present = There is a party
Past = There was a party
Present = There are many people at the cinema.
Past = There were many people at the cinema.
