« Present continuous » : Positive and Negative
The « present continuous » expresses an action happening in the current moment.
As an opposition to present simple, present continuous is used at the moment of speaking. It can’t be used for recurrent habits.
Positive structure :
Subject + to be (present) + verb + ing
e.g.
I’m doing my Homework ⇒ Je suis en train de faire mes devoirs
We’re eating with my parents ⇒ Nous sommes en train de manger avec mes parents
She’s listening to music ⇒ Elle est en train d’écouter la music
Negative structure :
Just add not after “to be” to create a negative sentence.
I’m not doing my Homework.
Exceptions:
There are a few exceptions such as verbs of thinking and feeling including love, like, hate, believe… And more in this sector.
the list also includes verbs of senses such as feel, look, smell, taste…
