Kate : Hello, if I want to buy this car in the ad, how much would it cost me?
Car Dealer : Let me get my contract out, and we’ll figure that out for you right now.
Kate : Can’t you just tell me what it costs?
Car Dealer : You know, I am prepared to offer you a great deal today on that car. With tax, license, registration, and dealer prep, the total will be eleven thousand pounds.
Kate : Fine, I’ll come back with my father, we’ll talk then.
Car Dealer : I am sure that we can work something out. What price were you thinking would be a good deal for you?
Kate : Well, eight thousand would be more like it. Can you go any lower?
Car Dealer : Ten thousand for this car is a good price. For that I am practically giving it away.
Kate : Normally that would be a good price, but that car has been in an accident. What’s your best price?
Car Dealer : Yes, I see your point. Eight thousand five hundred is my final offer.
Kate : Maybe you could add in some car mats and some seat covers?
Car Dealer : Fair enough, I can do that.
Kate : And what kind of payment terms are you offering?
Car Dealer : Well, if you give me a 40% down payment, we can work out the rest in monthly installments, let me see…. I can give you a deal with 2% interest?
Kate : That’s a bit steep! What about if I give a 50% down payment, and we forget the interest? Pretty sure other dealers will give me a 0% deal!
Car Dealer : Oh OK, you drive a hard bargain, it’s a deal!
